Newly appointed President of SGPC (Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Bhai Avtar Singh Ji visited Gurdwara Baru Sahib on 23 rd December 2005. He was received by the Chairman of Akal Academies, Dr. Khem Singh Ji. Despite the late hour of his arrival and the biting cold, the entire sangat of Baru Sahib collected in unison to accord him a warm and affectionate reception. He was then taken in a procession to the Gurdwara Sahib.

Welcoming Bhai Avtar Singh Ji, Dr. Khem Singh said that he was the first President of S.G.P.C. to have come to Baru Sahib to pay obeisance at this pristine ancient Tapo-Bhoomi of the Sikhs and bless the various projects being undertaken here in service of humanity. Bhai Avtar Singh Ji appreciated the facilities created and development that had taken place at Baru Sahib. He became very emotional when he said that ever since he had been given the new sewa of serving the panth through the office of President of S.G.P.C, he was keenly in search of such a ‘phulwari’ where young children were being reared up in true tradition and spirit of the Khalsa. “Today”, he said, “my thirst has been quenched and wishes fulfilled”. He further said that he was very impressed by the facilities being provided to children and also the high quality of education. “Opening of more such schools is the need of the hour”, he concluded
