Free ‘Akal International Medical Camp’ organized at Baru Sahib
 

The Kalgidhar Society, Baru Sahib organized a free medical camp from 30 September to 1 October 2007 at Akal Charitable Hospital, Baru Sahib. This medical camp was attended by specialists and super-specialists from not only Delhi, Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Patiala, but also from USA. These benefactors provided their specialized services to the rural, poor and underprivileged people of this remote Himalayan region virtually at their doorsteps. The medical specialists who flew in from USA were;

(i) Dr. Jasjit Kaur Atwal (Anesthetist) (ii) Dr. Sumit Sandhu (Gynecologist) (iii) Dr. Chanda Bell (Anesthetist)

Besides them, a team of several Medical and Para-Medical professionals comprising of ENT Specialists, Surgeons, Physicians, Dental Specialists, Child Specialists, Psychiatrists, Gynecologists, Ortho (Bones, Joints) Specialists and Skin Specialists volunteered their services in this noble cause.

The proceedings commenced with the performance of Ardaas in Darbar Sahib. His Excellency V.S. Kokje (Governor of Himachal Pradesh) graced the occasion on 1 October, 2007. He was accompanied by Mr. G.R. Musafir (Speaker, Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly) and other government officials.

The honorable guest presented mementos to all the Doctors as a token of appreciation. He also interacted with the patients who had traveled to Baru Sahib undertaking long and arduous journey through difficult terrains to get rid of deadly diseases completely free of cost. H.E. was greatly impressed by the ultra-modern facilities being provided to the poor in this 200-bedded Akal Charitable Hospital, which caters to about 150 patients daily at its OPD.

About 1100 patients were treated in the O.P.D. and 85 surgeries were performed during this camp.
