Annual Gurmat Samagam celebrated with reverence and devotion

The 50th Annual Gurmat Samagam was celebrated with great reverence, devotion and enthusiasm in the sweet remembrance of Sant Teja Singh Ji (MA, LLB (Punjab.), AM (Harvard). Sant Teja Singh Ji graced Baru Sahib, Tapo Bhoomi of Khalsa in 1956 and laid the foundation of Gurudwara Baru Sahib.

Gurmat Samagam is held every year as an Anniversary celebration. The Samagam started off on 1st July, 2006 with the Akhand Path. Many students participated in this celebration. On 3rd July, competition among students in different activities took place, such as:

• Shabad Kirtan

• Speeches

• Gurbani Shabad recitation by different classes (in groups)

After the competition, Baba Iqbal Singh Ji delivered a discourse of spiritual guidance in remembrance of the contribution and the glorious path shown by Sant Teja Singh Ji. He spoke for about half an hour and exhorted students to follow the path shown by The Almighty. In the evening, similar events were organized in which students participated in different activities like Shabad recitation, Dhadi Varan (with the help of Sarangi and Dhad). This was a rare presentation which the girls of the school have presented in the foreign lands also. Similarly, a very melodious and mesmerizing recitation of Gurbani was presented with the help of stringed musical instruments (Tanti Saaz). The sangat enjoyed and appreciated the enthusiasm of the students as everyone was involved in the Shabad Kirtan.

Judges for the day were Prof. J.S. Jogi, Dr. Purvi, and 'Major Aunty'. All these events were performed by the students of Akal Sangeet Academy. A cassette of Shabad recitation by the students was released by Baba Iqbal Singh Ji. The whole program was compered by S. Rajinder Singh Chadha (New Delhi). Dr. Khem Singh Gill (Vice-President of The Kalgidhar Trust, former Vice Chancellor, PAU Ludhiana) also presented his views regarding the various ongoing activities under the guidance of Baba Iqbal Singh Ji in various locations. He also appreciated the students who participated in various events playing their part in making this Samagam a memorable one. Special mention was made of the upcoming academic institutes such as:

• Akal College of Engineering and Technology

• Akal College of Commerce and Management

• Akal College of Basic Sciences

• Akal College of Divine Music and Spiritual Sciences

• Akal College of Naturopathy (Alternative Medicine)

• Akal College of Nursing

• Akal College of Public Health

• Akal College of Teacher Training

The samagam continued till 11:00 pm, which was was attended by a large number of devotees who had come from far off places to offer their devotion, dedication and respect to Sant Attar Singh Ji Maharaj.

The proceedings came to an end with Guru Ka Langar.
