The Akal International Medical Camp was organized from 30 Sept. to 1 Oct. 2007 at Akal Charitable Hospital, Baru Sahib. H.E. Mr. V.S. Kokje (Governor of Himachal Pradesh) graced the occasion on 1 October, 2007. He was accorded a warm welcome by Mr. G.R. Musafir (Speaker, Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly), management of the Kalgidhar Trust and students of Akal Academy and Akal College of Engineering & Technology (ACET).

The Akal International Medical Camp was attended by Medical specialists and super-specialists who flew in from USA and also from Delhi, Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Patiala providing their selfless services to the rural, poor and underprivileged people of this remote Himalayan region virtually at their doorstep. A team of several Medical and Para-Medical professionals comprising of ENT Specialists, Surgeons, Physicians, Dental Specialists, Child Specialists, Psychiatrists, Gynecologists, Ortho (Bones, Joints) Specialists and Skin Specialists volunteered their services in this noble cause. Free medical camps to provide the ultra-modern health services to the people of this remote hilly area of Himachal Pradesh are held on regular basis at Akal Charitable Hospital. In these camps, all the health services including surgeries are provided free of cost. Naturopathy camps are also held from time to time.

The honourable guest presented mementos to all the Doctors as a token of appreciation. He also interacted with the patients who had travelled to Baru Sahib undertaking quite long and arduous journey on difficult terrains to get rid of deadly diseases completely free of cost. H.E. was greatly impressed by the ultra-modern facilities being provided to the poor in this 200-bedded Akal Charitable Hospital, which caters to about 150 patients daily at its OPD.

His Excellency also addressed the management, staff and students in the auditorium of ACET. He paid homage to Sant Attar Singh Ji and Sant Teja Singh Ji, the founders of The Kalgidhar Trust. In his address, he appreciated the unique value based system being followed in ACET, Akal Academies and other educational institutions being run by the Trust. Further, he proudly took note of the recent sanctioning of the 'Eternal University' under the aegis of the Trust, by the Cabinet of Himachal Pradesh. He said, "The task of imparting quality education to the poor is so vast and full of immense responsibility that it cannot be achieved solely by the initiatives of the Government. Only the involvement of voluntary organizations like The Kalgidhar Trust can make it possible." He was full of praise for the efforts of the Trust, which inspite of being self-financed, yet is selflessly working towards the uplift of the poor, needy and the downtrodden.

The Governor also visited the various projects like Akal Academy - Baru Sahib, Akal Teachers’ Training Acedemy and Akal Rozgar Yojna etc. He appreciated the mission of Akal Academies to produce morally enlightened citizens and globally competitive professionals through the synthesis of modern scientific education blended with moral values. Next, he met girls from deprived strata from all over the country who are being imparted Elementary Teachers' Training free of cost. Akal Rozgar Yojna, which is a Women empowerment program, caught the interest of the Guest. He also spent time in meeting students of Akal Divine Music Academy where he listened to their presentations.
