The Kalgidhar Society has walked miles to serve the poor in rural regions on humanitarian grounds and yet to go miles more for the noble cause. On its way to achieve another milestone, The Kalgidhar Society has established the 3rd Drug De-addiction Center in village Jharon near Cheema Sahib on 23 Aug 2006.
This Drug De-addiction center has been established on the land donated by the Panchayat of village Jharon. The Centre was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner, Sangrur, Mr. S.R. Ladhar. After the inauguration, the Deputy Commissioner said that The Kalgidhar Society is serving the humanity and assured all help by the entire Administration Department for its noble activities. The Chairman of Akal Academies and former Vice-Chancellor of PAU Dr. Khem Singh Gill welcomed the Deputy Commissioner, Sangrur in his impressive speech. Chief Medical Officer of Drug De-addiction Centre, Jharon, Colonel (Dr.) Rajinder Singh (Chandigarh) informed the gathering that the First Drug De-addiction Centre at Cheema Sahib was functioning successfully since July 2004. Nearly 1500 patients of Drug-addiction have been “cured” in this Centre till date. Encouraged by the enormous success of the two centers at Cheema Sahib and Baru Sahib (H.P.) and great demand from the poor people, The Kalgidhar Society has decided to establish this Drug De-addiction Centre which was dedicated to the memory of Sant Attar Singh Ji.
Adding more colours to the occasion, little girls of Akal Academy, Cheema Sahib presented an Anti-Drug poem whereas Cheema Cultural Group staged a patriotic choreography, which was highly applauded by the audience.
At the end of the function, the Deputy Commissioner, Sangrur honoured the Panchayat of village Jharon for donating the land on which building of the Centre has been erected.
