The new building of Akal De-addiction Center established by The Kalgidhar Trust, Baru Sahib was inaugurated by S. Sukhbir Singh Badal (Member of Parliament & acting President of Shiromani Akali Dal) on 7 September, 2007 at Cheema Sahib. S. Parminder Singh Dhindsa (Minister, Public Works, Punjab) presided over the function which was attended by many eminent personalities including Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra (senior Akali leader), S. Baldev Singh Maan (senior Akali leader), Dr. Khem Singh (Vice-President, The Kalgidhar Trust) and Dr. Rajinder Singh (MBBS, DPM, MD). Local leaders, Panchayats of surrounding villages and volunteers in the field of drug de-addiction also attended the function.
In his welcome address, Dr. Khem Singh appraised the gathering about the various philanthropic activities being undertaken by The Kalgidhar Trust in the fields of education, de-addiction, rehabilitation and social welfare. S. Parminder Singh Dhindsa praised the volunteers of the Trust for their tremendous achievements in the field of rural education. He said that the Akal Academies being established by the Trust are ushering a new era bringing rural education revolution in Punjab.
Speaking on the occasion, S. Sukhbir Singh Badal said, “ It is my pleasure to be here on this auspicious occasion and it is heartening to know that all of you share a desire to help ‘recovering drug addicts’ stand strong against the temptation of taking drugs again. The road to total recovery is filled with many challenges, which leave many of us tired and discouraged. It is with the assistance and support from the volunteers of the Trust that former drug abusers are able to regain their confidence and live a honorable life without being imprisoned in the clutches of drug addiction. This de-addiction center at Cheema Sahib will play a pivotal role in this noble cause.” He assured all kinds of support and help to The Kalgidhar Trust.
