Patients find a new lease of life at De-Addiction Center, Cheema Sahib

Patients undergoing treatment at de-addiction center at Cheema Sahib
 

The de-addiction center at Cheema, Gurdwara Janam Asthan Sant Attar Singh Ji, is being run by The Kalgidhar Society, Baru Sahib, since 19 July 2004. By joining voluntarily, hundreds of patients have given up different kinds of drug addiction. These patients have been treated under the supervision of Dr. Col. Rajinder Singh (Psychiatrist and de-addiction expert).

When a group of journalists interacted with the patients belonging to different cities and villages at Cheema, they expressed their views without any bias.

Varinder Singh, 25, from Mohali told that he has passed twelfth and drives his own auto-rickshaw. He revealed that he was taking drugs (4 capsules of Morphene, 20 capsules of Proxivon and Zarda (powdered tobacco 5 times a day) since the age of 17. He had also started taking a pack of smack for the last 3 years. He added that he joined this de-addiction camp voluntarily after being motivated by Baba Iqbql Singh Ji of Baru Sahib. In the beginning, he faced many problems while giving up drugs, but now he is completely normal. Now, he is a baptized Sikh (Amritdhari).

21 year old Satvinder Singh of Safipur, Teh. Dirba, Distt. Sangrur, told this correspondent that he used to consume 250 grams of opium, 30 tablets of Lomotil and a pack of Zarda daily for the last 3 years. He couldn’t give up drugs even after trying different treatments at various places. But he is fully treated and satisfied after attending the de-addiction camp here. Sukhdev Singh of village Amru Katra has another story to tell. He told that he was taking 1 Kg of opium monthly for the last 30 years, but after attending this de-addiction camp, he has been completely cured from drug-addiction.

Gulab Singh (driver), a resident of village Smadhan Vala, Teh Goohla Cheeka, Distt. Kaithal, Haryana, was in the habbit of taking 150 grams of opium, Lomotil Tablets, Proxivon Capsules besides Gutka (Tobacco) daily for many years. He expressed his happiness as he was fully cured now and enjoying good health.

Many other patients also expressed their views and were greatly satisfied with the results of this de-addiction center at Cheema.

On this occasion, Bhai Jaivinder Singh, sevadar of Gurdwara Janam Asthan told the journalists that patients belonging to all religions and all sections of society are admitted to the two-month course in the de-addiction camp here. Patients’attention is diverted towards spirituality. The patients attend the spiritual discourses and recitation of spiritual music at Darbar Sahib on their own without any compulsion and recite Divine Name. All the patients are given a sky colored uniform which soothes their mind and help in diverting their mind towards spirituality. The medical staff provides free services round the clock in case of any difficulty faced by the patients.
