To commemorate the centenary celebrations of Sant Attar Singh Ji’s vision, The Kalgidhar Society has started the construction of a girls’ college at village Cheema (place of birth of Sant Ji), Distt. Sangrur, Punjab, whose foundation stone was laid by Sri Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Mr. Avtar Singh Makkar and Member of Parliament from Distt. Sangrur Mr. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa. The 5 Acre land for the construction of the college has been donated by SGPC.

Speaking on the occasion, the SGPC President said, “It is a great effort by The Kalgidhar Society to save our future generations by blending modern scientific education with moral education. They are showing the right path to the youth in these turbulent times. The Kalgidhar Society Baru Sahib has invaluable contribution in the development of education in the rural and backward regions of Northern India by establishing a chain of Akal Academies in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. The whole community is thankful and indebted to them for their efforts.”

Baba Iqbal Singh Ji, President of The Kalgidhar Society, expressing his views on the establishment of the girls’ college, said, “At present, after completing the high school education, the poor girls in the rural areas are not in a position to join college for their higher education for many reasons. Firstly, it costs beyond their means. Secondly, the atmosphere in the colleges of cities is not conducive. Thirdly, they have to cover long distances to the cities. So, our main purpose by starting this girls’ college is to provide higher education at the doorstep to the underprivileged girls of these rural areas. So we have planned to build a large college with boarding, lodging and all other facilities to provide a congenial atmosphere to them.”

“Along with the arts, commerce and science streams, we shall also provide them with a wide choice of professional courses to make them self-dependent and self-sufficient”, he added.

Truly said, we feel, since looking at the community in totality, we wish all of us not just keep discussing problems but explore and implement solutions to the existing quagmire.
