The resolution for setting up of first private Sikh university named as Eternal University at Baru Sahib, Himachal Pradesh, India has been unanimously passed today by the Himachal Pradesh assembly.

This university will be the first private Sikh university in the world and is the practical realization of a century old vision of Sant Attar Singh Ji Mastuana Wale.

Letter of Intent for setting up Eternal University was issued in September 2007 by the Himachal Pradesh government and within a month, all the government conditions were complied with by The Kalgidhar Trust.

This university will be a broad-based university with a multi-discipline approach.

Under this university, 11 professional colleges in the field of Engineering, Health Sciences, Arts and Sciences, Teachers’ Training, Business Administration, Public Health, Naturopathy and Alternative Medicine, Pharmaceuticals, Divine Music and Spirituality, Medicine and Distance Learning will be set up.

The historic first academic session of Akal College of Engineering & Technology, the maiden project under the Eternal University, commenced with cent percent admissions on 25 August, 2007. Another project under Eternal University, Akal College of Nursing at Baru Sahib is near completion and the first session is expected to commence in 2008. The Bachelor Degree Course in Nursing will be the first one in the State of Himachal Pradesh.

Eternal University will lay a considerable emphasis on value-based education to nurture and groom worthy global citizens. The graduates of this unique educational system will not only be excellent in academics but will also have high moral values. They will have love for humanity, compassion for the weak and commitment through selfless service for mankind. In a way, the graduates will work towards establishing permanent peace and universal brotherhood in the world as envisaged by the founding fathers Sant Attar Singh Ji Maharaj of Mastuana and Sant Teja Singh Ji.
