Educational, inspirational and divine; these are just a few words that can describe the first annual Akal Academy Fundraiser which was held on May 11, 2008 at the Grand Taj Banquet Hall in Surrey, BC.

This event was a resounding success by all measures. The goal was to raise awareness and capital to provide value-based scientific education to downtrodden and underprivileged children belonging to the backward rural regions of North India. This goal was not only met successfully, but surpassed by leaps and bounds as numerous businesses and individuals made contributions whole-heartedly for this great noble cause. Over 800 guests were in attendance, who were informed and inspired by eloquent speeches delivered by the Guests of Honor.

The speakers outlined the need for rural education in Northern India and the immense amount of work being done by The Kalgidhar Society in those rural backward regions of the country and around the world. The guests were also serenaded by the heavenly music emanating from beautifully played classical Indian string instruments. They witnessed children of the youngest ages from the local Akal Academy in Surrey master their voices and deliver their message in a public forum with utmost confidence and valor.

The atmosphere was surcharged with positive energy and numerous emails praising the grand event and its success are being received. The organizers are sure that it is entirely possible to make this event an even bigger success next year with the grace of God and the support of such a wonderful community.
