In addition to the routine services mentioned above, Akal Charitable Hospital organizes general medical camps and Ophthalmologic camps thrice a year. In these camps, specialists from USA and many states of India like Jalandhar, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Delhi and Bombay volunteer their services. The medical camps are held in the month of March/April and September/October. More than 2000 patients attend each of these camps where services of super specialists are provided virtually at the doorsteps of these poor people living in this remote Himalayan region. More than 100 operations are carried out in each of these camps absolutely free of cost. Surgery like Hernia, hysterectomy, Myringoplasty, Cleft lip and cleft palate, skin grafting, contractures following burns, all kinds of general surgeries and orthopaedic surgeries are done in these camps. Some of these operations would cost more than Rs. 30000/- to 40000/- if they were performed in any private hospital in a city. |
